Tabak-Falterfisch (Chaetodon fasciatus)

Der Tabak-Falterfisch (Chaetodon fasciatus) und der Mondsichel-Falterfisch (Chaetodon lunula) ähneln sich sehr und sind daher nur schwer zu unterscheiden. Die Färbung beider Arten ist gelb, schwarz und weiß und wie ihre Namensvetter - die Waschbären - tragen sie eine halbmondförmige Maske aus einem schwarzen und weißem Band über Gesicht und Augen. Doch was ist der Unterschied zwischen C. lunula und C. fasciatu? C. lunula hat einen schwarzen Fleck vor der Schwanzflosse und schräge gelbe Streifen hinter dem Kopf. C. fasciatus fehlt der Fleck und die Streifen.

The Diagonal Butterflyfish (Chaetodon fasciatus , also known as the Red Sea Raccoon Butterflyfish) and the Raccoon butterflyfish (Chaetodon lunula), are extremely similar looking and it can be difficult to determine the difference. Both species are colored yellow, black and white and bear black and white crescent bands over the face and eyes raccoon-mask-like imitating their namesake. But what is the difference between C. lunula and C. fasciatus? The Indo-Pacific species C. lunula has a dark black patch right before the tail fin and oblique yellow stripes behind the head. The Red Sea species C. fasciatus lacks this black spot and yellow stripes.
